Today was the opening of "Abraham Lincoln, the Man You Didn't Know" at the Center for History. Kyle, as our family knows but you probably don't, is obsessed with the Civil War. Every time we go to the library he must have a book about the Civil War. So we knew we had to go to this.
They had a man portraying Abraham Lincoln and he looked dead on for the real guy. Kyle sees him and his eyes pop out. Kyle takes a few steps forward and "Abraham Lincoln" reaches down to shake Kyle's hand when Kyle blurts out "I thought you where shot!" To which the actor says I was and then bends down and whispers a secret in his ear. To which Kyle replies "Okay, it's our secret." It was very cute. They news paper lady thought so too and thus emerged the beginning of her article. Which I will have to scan in and post another time since the newspaper won't let me link to it. But here is a good picture of Kyle and Honest Abe.
We listened to this man give Lincoln's speeches. He was so good at giving them that, for a time, I was transported back in time and without really realizing it, was standing in a heavy drizzle of rain.
He was always accompanied by a guard of military men. They were his body guards. It was very interesting indeed. Inside the museum they had a replica of his casket and many other cool and artifacts and entertaining facts about Lincoln's roll in history. Because the children accompanied us this day we were unable to read and look as much as we adults would have liked so we will be going back sometime in the near future.
In attendance this day were Myself, the Scout Master, E, K, B, Grandma, Pappy, and Great Grandma Powers.
